My name is Jean Mason. My husband, Don and I live near Fort Worth. We had a very small personal kennel built into our home. We live with no more than four wire fox terriers at one time, other than an occasional litter of Wire Fox Terrier Puppies. Our wires are all hand raised and loved as part of our family. Occasionally our dogs will be found sleeping with us. I tell you this because we want you to know that our wires are not raised as kennel dogs, but part of the family, even when we have show dogs at home.

Bottom Step: Masons One Over Par Bogey, UD
Middle Step: Bogeys Little Sundance Miss, CDX
Top Step: CH. O'Ryles Irisheyes R Smiling, CDX(Bailey)
My love for animals began as a child on a farm in Kentucky and has never diminished. A dog could always be found in our household and thank goodness my husband felt the same as I about this. It is our feeling that "A HOUSE IS NOT A HOME WITHOUT A DOG" , and in our case it now has to be a Wire Fox Terrier.
Our first wire was purchased quite a few years ago, then two years later another, a male and a female, Bogey and Missy. I did obedience with them and this was my introduction to conformation dog shows. A few years later, we purchased another little male we called Bailey from a friend out in West Texas who co-owned the litter with the now deceased Handler, Judge Artist, Dennis Springer, sired by his Ch. Louline Peabody.
A friend, Artt Chapa, conditioned and handled our first few wires to their Championship. We traveled together to shows, sometimes my doing obedience and he doing the conformation dogs. Bailey was to become our first Champion as well as Obedience titled Companion Dog Excellence (CDX), or as they say, with a title on "both ends of his name".
One thing led to another and we were off into the wonderful world of wires. We purchased another female, this time from Barb Decker, Snowtaire kennel in Orting, Washington, bred and co-owned a couple of litters with her.Ch. Snowtaires FoxxRun Witchs Brew (Megan)was her name. One litter was sired by the Hallmark Ch. Burrencroft Crusader, owned by Jim Coutts of Kennel Hallmark, and out of that we produced my first "home grown" Champion, Kelsey. Through Jim we were introduced to the Burrencroft Kennel name out of Northern Ireland. Shortly after this, FoxxRun joined forces with Mary Smithson Morris from Ft Worth, Tx. She too had started out with obedience and already had several Champions to her kennel name of Foxfyre Wires. Since joining forces, we have been able to import, breed and produce some very nice wire fox terriers. Through attending all breed dog shows and specialty shows, Mary then met and married Mr. Michael J. Collings, Purston Terriers, originally from Great Britain. He, being in terriers for years on both sides of the "pond", was able to help in our efforts to improve our WFT bloodlines.
He has had many champions not only in Wires but in Welsh, Airedales and Westies, both in the US and GB. He himself had owned several wires with the Burrencroft name and was able to introduce us to the owner, Mr. Mervyn Thompson from Northern Ireland. From this introduction, we have been able to purchase and start in a new direction with our quest for excellence. We feel that we now own some of the best, if not THE best Wire Fox Terriers in the US. We have done well in the past couple of years, with our first import, whom we showed in GB for awhile, and then brought to the US, ending her show career in 2002 with being ranked by AKC as the #6 Wire Fox Terrier in the US. Moon Beam has since been bred and has produced for us our fantastic Aristocrat.
We had a very good beginning in 2003, already finishing two more champions before the year was half over. Our "Lollipop", Purston Struts her stuff has won the prestigeous WIRE FOX TERRIER CLUB OF THE CENTRAL STATES show, (the only ALL wire fox terrier show in the US), and our "Smithy", Burrencroft Fireson of Purston, won the Sweepstakes show at the same show, then came back to finish his Championship by going "Winners Dog" in regular classes.
In 2006, "Cracker" Ch. Purstn Fxxfyre Walk the Walk, repeated the BISS win at Central States. She is the daughter of "Lollipop." Like mother; like daughter. We were extremely proud.
Later in 2006, Ch. Purston Foxxfyre Aristocrat, our home-bred champion took the honors at the American Fox Terrier Club National Specialty Show by winning Best of Breed- a fantastic win. He followed that win with another exciting breed win at the 2006 AKC/Eukanuba Invitational Championship show.
In 2007 Aristocrat has started winning Terrier Groups and has proved himself to be an outstanding stud dog. Watch for his puppies in the future!
We are extremely grateful to our handler,Sandra Paulson, for her very capable and extremely professional manner in caring for and presenting our wires. She has a love and respect for each wire that she has in her possession. We always know that they are well taken care of and given lots of personal attention. My greatest appreciation though, goes to my husband of many, many years for his support in my love of this sport. Without this support, my part in these accomplishments would never have happened. Thank you Don, I love you.
Thank you so much for visiting with us and we sincerely hope you will take a few minutes to browse through my web site and look at not only the "show pictures", but will also enjoy our little ones in the puppy and fun pages, as well as go through the different links and visit other places. Information can be found about so many things of interest in the Wonderful World of Wires.
Remember, "A HOUSE WITHOUT A WIRE IS NOT A HOME"
